Gayville-Volin School Track/Field
The Gayville-Volin Track and Field Athletic Complex is a staple for the community of Gayville. Not only is it used for school events but it is also for the community to take advantage of as well.
The eight-lane, 400 meter track is a relatively new addition to the school district as it was completed in 2015. On Tuesday, April 21, 2015, Gayville-Volin High School hosted its first ever home track meet. The track was considered Phase 2 of the athletic complex project and cost around $350,000 to build. A lot of that money raised was donations from Gayville and other surrounding community members.
Anyone is welcome to use the track. Use at your own risk. The track is a safe alternative for community members to walk and run on rather than going on streets or out in the country. The facility is not available to use during school hours or during school activities. No public restrooms are available.
Gayville-Volin Track/Field - "Our Story"
Once upon a time, a little school in a little district in southeast South Dakota dreamed of building an outstanding athletic complex. The school had plans drawn up that included a new football stadium complete with an 8-lane track that would be host to the best athletes from around the region. The school built a beautiful football field with stadium seating, but the track would have to wait until funds became available. However, a group of supportive parents wanted to see the dream completed sooner rather than later. They adopted the motto, "If we build it, they will run."
In cooperation with the school district, the parents set out on a fundraising campaign. Pledges from community members and alumni were the hallmark of the kickoff campaign. Soon after, a track committee was formed. The committee hosted several fundraisers including Track-a-Palooza, annual golf invitational, and combination Welcome to the Big Town Fun Run/Bike events. These efforts were supported not only by community members, but also by friends, family, and supporters of the Gayville-Volin School District from all over the country. They shared a common dream, and the dream became a reality. Collectively - We have built it, and now they run!
